Juneteenth Holiday… Juneteenth Celebration

Juneteenth Holiday… Juneteenth Celebration

                     Phil Morrison

     Juneteenth Holiday

     Let’s have commemoration

     Juneteenth Holiday

     A Yearly celebration

     Juneteenth Holiday

     Delayed emancipation

     Juneteenth Holiday

      A time for Education

Sing the praises when that day

The Rebel South surrendered
Battles from the blue and gray

Have now forever ended

Official Documents were signed

In 1863

It proclaimed now's the time

When ALL Black folks are free

(Chorus)

     Juneteenth a Holiday

     Delayed emancipation

     Equal justice.. here to stay

     A day of Celebration

     Juneteenth…a Holiday

     A time for exaltation

     FREEDOM is what we say

     Let’s join in celebration. (but)

Down in Texas no one heard

There’s now emancipation

Very few got the word

They lacked communication

Then at last in Galveston the

News finally arrived

Joyfully on June 19th…in 1865.

     Juneteenth a holiday

     Delayed emancipation

     Equal justice here to stay

     A day of celebration

     Juneteenth a holiday

     A time for exaltation

     FREEDOM is the only way

     No racial domination

     Unity is what we say

     Let’s join in celebration
